Nationally Recognised Training – Units of Competency

To be eligible for a Demolition Supervisor Licence in QLD, you should complete 14 units of competency, including two additional units required by WHSQ so that your technical knowledge aligns with AS2601:2001 The demolition of structures.

CPCCDE3020 – Select and use tools and equipment for hot work in the demolition industry
CPCCDE3022 – Manage demolition recyclable and waste materials using load-shifting equipment
CPCCBC4002 – Manage occupational health and safety in the building and construction workplace
CPCCBC4012 – Read and interpret plans and specifications
CPCCDE4001 – Plan and prepare for activities on demolition sites
CPCCDE4002 – Plan and supervise demolition work to minimize environmental and public health and safety impact
CPCCDE4003 – Supervise individual activities on demolition sites
CPCCDE4004 – Finalize demolition activities and supervise property handover

Licensing Outcomes for Demolition Work in Queensland

In Queensland, a Demolition Work Licence is mandatory for businesses or undertakings intending to perform specific types of demolition work. This licence ensures that demolition activities are conducted safely and in compliance with regulatory standards.

When is a Demolition Work Licence Required?

A licence is required for the following demolition activities:

  • Structures with Pre-Tensioned or Post-Tensioned Components: Demolishing structures containing pre-tensioned or post-tensioned structural elements. Learn more
  • Use of Load-Shifting Equipment: Demolition involving equipment such as excavators, cranes, or other load-shifting machinery.
  • Use of Explosives or Induced Collapse Methods: Demolition methods that utilize explosives or techniques inducing structural collapse.
  • Other Demolition Work: Unless the structure being demolished or dismantled is:
    • A domestic house.
    • A structure built as, and still generally having the characteristics of, a domestic house (e.g., a domestic house converted to flats or an office).
    • A structure that is ancillary to a domestic house or a structure with the characteristics of a domestic house (e.g., a carport or garage for a domestic house).

    And the work does not involve load-shifting equipment or the demolition methods described above.

Application Process

To apply for a Demolition Work Licence:

  1. Complete Form 76: Fill out the Application for a licence to carry out demolition work.
  2. Attach Required Documents: Ensure all necessary supporting documents are included with the application.
  3. Submit the Application: Send the completed form and attachments to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

Mandatory Prerequisites:

General Construction Induction (current White Card UOC) – CPCCWHS1001

    • Unit Code: CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
    • Requirement: All workers in the construction and demolition industries must hold a White Card, which demonstrates their knowledge of work health and safety (WHS) requirements.
    • Purpose: This card is a mandatory requirement for any worker entering a construction or demolition site in NSW and across Australia. It covers essential workplace safety principles, risk management, and legal responsibilities.
    • How to Obtain: The White Card can be obtained through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that offers nationally recognized training.

Competency in Using Demolition Equipment & Tools (Preferred but Not Mandatory)

    • Applicants with prior experience handling demolition equipment such as jackhammers, oxy-acetylene cutting tools, excavators, bulldozers, and cranes will have an advantage.
    • Some courses may require applicants to have prior training in plant operation or high-risk work licences (e.g., Crane Operation, Rigging, Scaffolding).

Understanding of WHS Regulations and Risk Management

      • A fundamental understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Risk Assessments, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is essential.
      • Candidates should be familiar with NSW Work Health and Safety Act 2011WHS Regulations 2017, and Demolition Work Code of Practice.

  • While not always explicitly required, our version of this program requires practical experience in demolition or construction-related work. Most applicants pursuing a Demolition Supervisor role will already have experience in roles such as:

        • Demolition Machine Operator - Using Demolition on Suspended Slabs & on the Ground using grabs, hammer and shearing attachments.
