Can I get a trade certificate without an apprenticeship?

An experienced-worker pathway assesses skills you already hold. It is not automatic — every element of every unit must be evidenced or gap trained.

Will this get me a builder or trade licence?

No provider can promise that. The qualification is one component; the state regulator assesses experience and other requirements separately.

    What evidence do I need?

Dated photos and video of your work, employer references or statutory declarations, plans and site documents, and existing tickets or statements of attainment.

    Who this is for

This program is for experienced carpenters who never finished a formal qualification. You are likely a good fit if you: - have several years of hands-on carpentry across a range of work; - can supply employer references and dated evidence of your work; - have access to current carpentry work for practical verification. You are probably not a good fit if you are starting out — an apprenticeship pathway suits that better.

    Delivery and assessment pathway

    Entry expectations

Substantial hands-on carpentry experience. This is an experienced-worker program, not an apprenticeship replacement for beginners.

    Assessment

Suitability review before substantial fees. Evidence of carpentry work you have personally performed — dated photos and video, employer references, plans and site documents — plus competency conversation and practical verification.

    Workplace evidence

Access to carpentry work so practical evidence can be gathered and verified.

    Certification issued on successful completion

On successful completion, the nationally recognised CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry.

Straight answers to the questions people search for — and ask AI assistants — about demolition licensing, supervisor authorisation and recognition of prior learning. Licensing rules are set by the regulator, not by us, so we always point you back to the source.

    What happens next

    1. You submit the eligibility form above.
    2. An OnShift adviser (real person, not a bot) reviews your background against this program's suitability criteria.
    3. We contact you — usually within one business day — with a plain-English recommendation. If this program doesn't suit you, we say so.
    4. If it does suit you, we walk you through fees, staging, and readiness before any enrolment is confirmed.

Licensing requirements vary by state and may change. Completing training does not guarantee that a licence or supervisor authorisation will be granted. Applicants may also need to meet experience, qualification, identity and other regulator requirements. Confirm the current requirements that apply to you directly with the relevant state regulator before enrolling.
