Unique Student Identifier (USI)

What is a USI and do I need one?

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a free, lifetime reference number that links every nationally recognised qualification and unit you complete to a single record. Australian law prevents any registered training organisation, including OnShift Education (RTO 41304), from issuing a certificate or statement of attainment without a verified USI. You create one yourself at usi.gov.au in about five minutes using a photo ID such as a driver licence or passport.

    Create your USI

Go to usi.gov.au, select "Create your USI", and have one form of government-issued ID ready. It is free and takes a few minutes. Already have one? Log in and retrieve it rather than creating a second.

    Common questions

What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
A USI is your individual reference number for nationally recognised training in Australia. It links every qualification and unit you complete, with any provider, to a single lifetime record.
Do I need a USI to enrol with Onshift Education?
Yes. By law, a registered training organisation cannot issue a nationally recognised certificate or statement of attainment unless you have a verified USI.
How much does a USI cost?
Nothing. You create a USI for free yourself at usi.gov.au, and you keep it for life.
What do I need to create a USI?
One form of government-issued identification — for example an Australian driver licence, passport, Medicare card or birth certificate — with your name exactly as it appears on that document.

More on your enrolment obligations is on the student information hub.
